Integrated Art in Interior Architecture
Monday, November 1, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Our goal is to examine how the different types of art benefit the user and the broader community. We will touch upon the various types of art seen in interior architecture (from paintings to greenery, and everything in between) that are integral to the overall design. Art brings meaning and intention to elevate design, but does it also have other benefits?

The Art of Small Talk
Thursday, November 4, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Across industries, networking is a vital aspect of life as a professional. It is the blood line of your career. As important as it is, networking professionally is a skill that needs to be practiced. Having an elevator pitch rehearsed and ready is just the beginning. Networking is perfecting the art of small talk; understanding how to engage with a variety of people, sharing key information about yourself while extracting key information from others, nurturing those relationships, and using them to your advantage.

Women in Design: Why They Leave + Where They Go
Friday, November 5, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Why do people leave the interior design industry? For the past decade or so, there has been an ever-expanding gap in the current workforce with 5-10 years of industry experience. While we know from previous research that the current gap had multiple contributing factors, one of which being the Great Recession, we also realize there are other reasons needing to be addressed. Starting the conversation about these factors sooner rather than later could prevent the gap from growing, especially as the current pandemic we’re facing could play a similar role as the Recession in a future loss of industry members. Focusing our conversation specially on why women are leaving the industry, we want to understand why they’re changing paths and where they’re going. Why is our career sector making it impossible to stay while other industries are providing seemingly endless opportunities? We plan to survey and interview designers currently in the field, those who have left to work in another sector of the field, and those who left entirely. We want to shed light on this problem and explore potential avenues for improvement.
