Tracy Backus // WELL Faculty, WELL AP, LEED AP ID+C, WELL V2 Advisory - Materials // Teknion Joining Teknion in April 2000 with a degree and license in interior design has given me a diverse career in the built environment industry. As Teknion’s Director of Sustainable Programs, advancing sustainability is a cultural imperative that allows for a personal passion. Daily, I build awareness on the importance of environmental values throughout the company, our supply chain and Teknion’s internal and external client base. With a focus on occupancy health and product ingredients, since 2011, the role has been to drive change in the supply chain and in manufacturing to reduce environmental impacts for the built environment. I have had the pleasure of contribution through knowledge leadership at Living Future, USGBC, Clean MED, Core NET, Material and Health Summit in 2013 and 2014 and Greenbuild’s Master Series in 2012. Occupancy health and well-being demand a focus on the importance of transparency and the impact that chemicals of concern have in the built environment. My passion for community has taken me beyond the office to remote locations in Honduras. For the past seven years I have been volunteering with in-country communities, clinics, Living Waters for the World and local churches to provide a basic need, clean water. Part of a small team of 5, we have improved the lives of over 10,000 people in Honduras to date with water purification and educational programs surrounding the importance of health and wellness by providing access to clean water. |
