Curious about calligraphy? Join Hailey Cyr at IIDA NE’s SPARK series for a warm and inviting introductory workshop on the tools, techniques, and best practices to transform your handwriting into beautiful calligraphy script! Hailey will teach us modern brush calligraphy basic strokes that you can use with any pen/marker/tool of your choosing. At the end, we will be applying your basic strokes to a mini fall-themed project. All levels of experience welcome! Come to be inspired and connect with our local IIDA NE community. The first five people to sign up will receive calligraphy supply kits (available to IIDA NE members only) so sign up early!

Materials & Helpful Tips From Hailey!

Things you can use at home to learn basic strokes:
  1. Any brush tip style pen. Here is a list of my absolute favorites:
    1. Tombow Fudenosuke Dual Pack
    2. Tombow 56621 Dual Brush Pen
    3. The all so classic, everyone’s favorite, Pentel Sign Pen
    4. If you have kids or are an inner kid (aka me), Crayola Fine Line Markers
  2. Tracing Paper: Anything will work, but this Strathmore 370-9 300 Series Tracing Pad has the smoothest writing surface
  3. Have some windex and paper towels ready!

Things for the SPARK event:

  1. Mr. Pen- White Chalk Markers
  2. Barnyard Designs Rustic Distressed Whitewashed Magnetic Wood Framed Chalkboard Sign
  3. Small White pumpkin (optional, for the more advanced). Can pick one up at your local grocery or garden store.
