Matt is a Principal and one of Bergmeyer’s most creative designers. He directs many diverse design teams from research and idea generation through concept development and implementation. Matt has authored some of the firm’s most innovative and memorable work including including the first dining hall renovation in the country to receive LEED Gold. An experienced collaborator, Matt also understands construction and how ideas are translated in the built environment and encourages the contributions of fabricators and builders as well as clients and stakeholders as critical participants in his widely-inclusive design process. Within his design teams, Matt does not draw a line between architects and designers but, instead, fosters a collaborative team setting that allows everyone to exercise their talents and creativity uniquely and successfully.
 
Matt describes the Fashion Show as his "entry drug" to IIDA NE, first starting as a model and team captain and eventually co-chairing the event. From there, he joined the board in 2016 and served as President from 2017-2018. While President, he led the Board of Directors towards the goal of shifting the perception of the organization away from big parties into more meaningful professional advancement offerings, building up many of our industry relationships and partnerships. Even today, he hasn’t slowed down in his present role as a member of the IIDA NE community, from writing the grant-winning application for the expansion of the Lifelong Leadership Program to solely serving emerging leaders with Emerging Leaders Network and serving mid-career designers with L.E.A.D. (Leadership Exploration and Development Program). In addition, he is currently the board liaison for the ELN, L.E.A.D, ABX, and Workplace Innovation Committees, all while maintaining his position on the Fashion Show Committee.
 
Matt’s first job out of design school was with Bergmeyer 25 years ago as an intern, and he has been there ever since. He is a dedicated and valued leader of the firm and the true heart and soul of what makes Bergmeyer, Bergmeyer.
