  • Rachel Giorgi, NCIDQ - Dyer Brown Architects

Every generation is influenced by the events and culture they grew up around. Born after 1996 and currently over 30% of the global population, Generation Z is quickly becoming our bar patrons and dinner guests. Gen Z’s tech-savvy, ethical, and fresh perspective has restaurateurs rethinking their business and design strategies to build loyal relationships with this up-and-coming generation. Our research will explore who Gen Z is and why their values are different from previous generations. We will discuss how restaurant brands can create unique dining experiences that engage and connect with this fast-growing generation. Our panelists included:

  • Diana Bradley, Associate IIDA - Stantec
  • Mallory Hudak, Associate IIDA - Amenta Emma
  • Catherine Keywan – Bergmeyer
  • Molly Randell – RODE
  • Kelsey Rogers - Elkus Manfredi

We will focus on the history of the modern North American restroom and what it has yet to become. By reflecting on how we made the bathroom what it is today, we will look to understand its deficiencies and how we can make it truly equitable. Our panelists included:

  • Ben Abbett – SMMA
  • Samantha Arel - OTJ
  • Kayleigh Fraser, Industry IIDA – Knoll
  • Gloria Norris - Fusion Design
  • Kristin Tedford, RA, AIA, NCIDQ, IIDA, LEED GA, WELL AP – saam

Curating Experiences for Children

Click here to watch this session!
It all begins at the root of our childhood. This is where we become dreamers. It’s the early years in our lives where we are full of so much hope. Somehow this spark of hope starts to diminish through schooling and structured classrooms. Learning spaces have fallen stagnant and regimented, shadowed with standardized testing and adult imposed stresses. As designers, we have witnessed so many corporate spaces develop from structured cubicles to an open office concept with break out spaces. Society has progressed to recognize the different ways adults work, but why have we yet to implement a setting for children that promotes inclusive opportunities to progress both mentally and socially? Our panelists included:

  • Haley Baker - Sasaki
  • Samantha Eisenbud, NCIDQ - McMahon Architects
  • Kaitlyn Gannon - SGA
  • Ritsa Konstantinidis - studioTROIKA
  • Carolina Otero, NCIDQ, LEED AP - Perkins + Will
