Emerging Leader Questionnaire 2022
Name: Brittney Prest Company: Stantec Architecture Concentration: Interior Design College/University: Wentworth Institute of Technology Year(s) of Graduation: 2013
What is your strongest personal quality?: Great listener What is your strongest professional skillset?: Being able to see the big picture
Why did you choose to become an Interior Designer?: I used to spend hours tracing my dad's architectural drawing templates (yes, he hand drafted his plans!) when I was younger and designed my own little floor plans with them. I would move around my room based on those plans and was constantly looking for items to style it. As I grew up, I realized I could be the 2 together and make it a career! How would you describe your personal design style?: Mid-century modern with an art deco flair. I love clean lines and layered textures, then shaking it up with an unexpected pop.
What three things do you most geek out on?: True crime podcasts, antiques and traveling. What are you looking forward to as an IIDA Emerging Leader?: Getting more involved in the Boston design community.
What has been your go-to for de-stressing this year?: Wandering around antique stores What advice do you have for designer students graduating?: Ask all the questions! They're never annoying or unjustified - they just show you want to learn.
What is your favorite annual IIDA event?: Fashion Show! How would you explain the difference between a professional Interior Designer vs Interior Decorator to a stranger?: We can both design stunning and complex spaces, but designers can shape and inform the built environment.
