Lightcraft, Director of Lighting Design Boston

Shahrzad Abtahi is the director of lighting design at Lightcraft and she is the head of Lighting Group at Boston’s office. She was one of the first lighting designers to earn WELL accreditation and teaches lighting and design courses at Suffolk University and Boston Architectural College. She is a frequent speaker at lighting and architectural conferences throughout the country. In March 2018, Shahrzad was named as one of North America’s top 40 under 40 lighting designers by Lighting Magazine.

Sara Schonour, LC, Associate IALD, MIES, LEED AP
CannonDesign - Vice President, Lighting Studio leader

Sara is a Lighting Designer who employs her passion, creative vision and technical expertise to lead CannonDesign’s award-winning Lighting Studio. Her team contributes integrated, inspired lighting to projects across all markets and typologies. Raised in a family of graphic and exhibit designers and educated as an architectural engineer with a focus in Lighting Design, Sara brings to each project a deep understanding of design and building systems along with her unbridled love for people + light. Sara teaches Lighting for Interiors at the BAC and is a past adjunct at RISD, and she is the president of the Designers Lighting Forum of New England.

Paul Zaferiou IALD, RA
Lam Partners - PRINCIPAL

Paul Zaferiou is a principal at Lam Partners. He studied Architecture at Washington University and the University of Oregon, and is a Registered Architect in the state of CA (inactive). In his 35 years of lighting consulting experience with Lam Partners, he has managed scores of projects, representing a wide range of project types and geographic locations. Paul brings a balanced background in all phases of architectural and interior design to Lam Partners, including construction administration and project closeout. He has developed lighting strategies to crystalize his clients’ visions for academic and educational facilities; civic, urban design and master planning projects; healthcare and research facilities; museums; exhibition spaces; libraries; office buildings; institutional and transportation facilities, and historic structures.  Fostering the importance and balance of Lam Partners’ legacy with the firm’s future design vision and direction, Paul inspires the design spirit of Lam Partners. His professional experience is complemented by teaching and lecturing, and is bolstered by his interest and passion in engaging and exciting future generations of lighting designers and architects.
